Building Food & Water Security
We actively fight malnourishment and illnesses caused by the shortage of food & water in order to combat poverty.

Our focus on sustainable food & water reflects our determination to combat poverty and the stress caused by never knowing when or from where the next meal or drink of clean water comes from. It is for this reason we use the Moono farm as a base of operations to grow and distribute invaluable sources of nourishment.

Projects supporting sustainable food & water include growing and providing grain for the surrounding villages, as well as corn for planting and using both substances as a base for meals. We maintain a 5 acre garden consisting of broccoli, onions, and tomatoes to share among the community, with the potential and intent to grow it to be even larger. We also raise a large amount of chickens. Eggs are a fairly inexpensive source of protein, and we provide this as a crucial source of sustenance.

One of our most significant accomplishments are our wells. Located in central locations accessible by all, they are a critical factor in whether or not rural villages are able to access clean water. We’re proud of the to-date implementation of five wells in twelve villages, with more to come.

A recent project in the pursuit of food & water security is a newly constructed greenhouse. This now provides seeds, dirt, trays and fertilizer to supply AF-AM’s community garden and share with others in the area as needed to supply individual’s own personal gardens. The self-sufficiency established by this project means we no longer have to purchase these supplies from vendors in the capital city of Lusaka - freeing up more of our funds to focus on what matters.
