Us

Africa-America (USA) International Ministries for Christ, Inc.

AF-AM was established in 2002 by Dr. Steady Moono, who emigrated from Zambia to the United States to further his education and build a future of opportunity for himself and his family. The ministry was formed for purpose of giving back to the people and country he loves by conducting and sustaining Christian missionary work. Using the Moono family’s farm in Zambia as a base of operations, we create sustainable sources of food and water, bolster education, provide much needed logistical support, and follow Jesus’ example by sharing and teaching our faith to those who are willing to listen.

Our core values are respect, integrity, commitment, and excellence. We affirm the dignity, potential and contribution of those we serve, donors, partners and employees. Our actions, consistent with our mission, are honest and transparent in what we do and say, accepting accountability for our collective and individual actions. We are committed to strong stewardship, wisely using financial, human and other God-given resources to combat obstacles identified by the people we serve. Lastly, we constantly challenge ourselves to serve the Lord and the people of Zambia with humility, vigor and without compromise.

Our strategic anchors are food & agriculture, clean water, education, and our faith. We create sustainable sources of food and agriculture by supporting local livestock and farming to build food security and fight hunger and malnutrition. We believe clean water is the foundation of life, health and allows for freedom from poverty, and reach this goal by digging wells and otherwise creating sustainable sources of clean water. We support education by equipping children for a future of opportunity through close partnership with the local education system. And throughout this work is our faith.

We partner and work closely with local community leaders in neighboring villages and the local church, as well as individuals on the Moono farm to determine how to best use our time, energy and resources. We make decisions with sustainability and self-sufficiency always in mind, as we believe this is the single most important factor in ultimately overcoming poverty. Examples of our focus on sustainability and self-sufficiency include installing generators to ensure the local community always has access to electricity due to the unreliability of Zambia’s national power grid, employing a local tailor who hires people in the community to make uniforms for school children as opposed to buying them in the capital city of Lusaka, and creating our own sustainable food sources through the use of a greenhouse and hammer mill that provide the community with seedlings and corn.

People

AF-AM’s biggest asset is its people. Without a passionate and diverse team making things happen, our ministry would not be able to reach as many people as we do. In the words of an African proverb,

"If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go together."
